Second Annual Gala
Last year’s 1in6 Support Gala was nothing short of extraordinary. Our community came together for an unforgettable evening filled with connection, celebration, and purpose and thanks to your support, we completely sold out and raised much needed funds for our vital programs. The energy in the room, the shared purpose, and the generosity shown made it one of our most impactful events to date.
We can’t wait to build on that momentum at this year’s gala. 2026 Abilities Parade & Inclusion Race in Midland!
The 2026 Abilities Parade & Inclusion Race returns to Midland on September 19, bringing together families, neighbors, and community partners for a day dedicated to disability pride and belonging. This free annual celebration invites everyone to participate in the Abilities Parade through Grove Park that honors individuals with disabilities and the communities that support them.
For those who want to go a step further, A Mile for a Mission offers a chance to walk, run, or roll four laps (or any distance you choose) while directly supporting 1in6 Support’s work with families of children with disabilities. Registration includes an event t‑shirt and commemorative ribbon, with earlybird pricing available through July 31. The day also features volunteer opportunities, sponsorship opportunities and a Family Fun Zone.
This year’s event is held in loving memory of Aiden Glaza, whose light and love from his family continues to inspire our work.

Healing Family Rifts with Author Mark Sichel
This month’s 2 Moms No Fluff episode, Family Rifts and Disability: When Love Gets Complicated, features an honest and deeply relatable conversation with therapist and author Mark Sichel. Drawing from his book Healing from Family Rifts and his own lived experience, Sichel shares how estrangement often grows from intolerance and explains how families of children with disabilities frequently face an added layer of vulnerability: relatives who feel overwhelmed, ashamed, or unable to accept a child’s needs may withdraw, criticize, or create conflict. Sichel’s insights highlight how these tensions can leave parents feeling isolated at the exact moment they need support the most.
The episode also explores the idea of creating a “second‑chance family,” a circle of people who love you, support you, and show up, regardless of blood relation. Sichel shares moving stories from his clinical work, including a mother whose relationship with her grandchildren was restored through unexpected circumstances, and offers guidance for families trying to prevent estrangement or heal long‑standing wounds.
Father’s Day Social in Montclair
Last Month, we hosted 1in6 Support’s very first Father’s Day social (not actually on Father’s Day :). More than 20 dads gathered at a local venue in Montclair for an evening dedicated to connection, conversation, and community. Many met other dads for the first time, shared their experiences, and built meaningful relationships that support both themselves and their children. The energy in the room was warm, welcoming, and full of the kind of camaraderie that so many dads have been looking for.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, with the group expressing strong interest in continuing to meet regularly. We’re thrilled to share that an ongoing dad’s groups will officially begin this Fall. The first event was just the beginning, and we can’t wait to grow this new and important part of 1in6 Support’s programs.
