Second Annual Gala

Even though our Second Annual Gala is officially sold out, there are still meaningful ways to be part of the celebration.

Sponsoring the Gala is also an exceptional visibility opportunity. Your organization’s commitment to inclusion is highlighted in front of a highly engaged community of families, advocates, educators, and leaders who care deeply about disability visibility and equitable access. It’s a meaningful way to align your brand with a mission that resonates far beyond the event itself.

We’re also collecting auction item donations through October 9, and every contribution helps elevate the event experience while directly supporting our mission. Donating an item is a meaningful way to participate even if you can’t attend and it adds real value to the programs and advocacy work 1in6 Support provides year‑round.

And whether a contribution comes through a sponsorship or as a personal donation, big or small, every gift contributes to 1in6 Support’s vital mission of advancing advocacy, strengthening community education, and supporting families of children with disabilities. Your generosity helps move this work forward.

A Fantastic Day of Inclusion in Midland

What a wonderful day and turnout!! We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated, donated, sponsored, volunteered, and helped make the 2026 Celebrate Abilities Parade and Mile for a Mission such a powerful community moment.

The weather may have shifted, but the spirit of the day never wavered. Thanks to the generosity of Dow High School, the event moved indoors seamlessly, allowing hundreds to gather in celebration of inclusion, visibility, and dignity for people of all abilities.

We were also honored to welcome Senator Chedrick Greene, whose presence underscored the importance of community‑driven inclusion and statewide support for disability visibility.

Ahead of the celebration, our co-founder Iris Mehler joined ABC12 in Midland to share the heart behind the event and the mission of 1in6 Support. She spoke about why visibility matters, why accessibility must be intentional, and why every person deserves to participate fully in community life. Her message resonated deeply: “Disability is a normal part of human experience, and everyone matters.” The interview set the tone for the day, one rooted in dignity, inclusion, and the belief that communities are strongest when everyone is seen.

Support Groups for Grandparents & Dads

This Fall, we’re expanding connection and community through two meaningful support groups. We’re launching our pilot Grandparents’ Support Group, a space created for grandparents who play an essential role in the lives of children with disabilities. It’s a place to share experiences, learn together, and feel supported in a role that is often overlooked but deeply impactful.

To help introduce the importance of grandparent involvement, we’re sharing a powerful episode of the 2 Moms No Fluff podcast, where Iris and Alma talk candidly about the unique challenges and joys grandparents face.

Our Dad’s Group is also resuming in October, offering fathers a supportive environment to connect, reflect, and navigate the disability journey with others who understand it firsthand. For those wanting to explore the fatherhood perspective more deeply, 2 Moms No Fluff also features an insightful episode focused on dads and the emotional, practical, and relational layers of raising a child with disabilities.

Both groups strengthen our mission of building community, visibility, and shared understanding for every family, ensuring no one walks this journey alone.
