New Podcast Episodes

This spring, Alma and Iris released two powerful new episodes of Two Moms No Fluff, each tackling topics that families in our community navigate every day. These conversations blend lived experience, professional insight, and practical guidance, making them valuable resources for caregivers, educators, and anyone supporting individuals with disabilities.

Disability & Sexuality: Understanding Healthy Education

Sexuality is a natural part of human development, yet it remains one of the most overlooked and misunderstood areas for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this episode, Alma and Iris break down why comprehensive, respectful sexuality education is essential, not only for safety, but for dignity, autonomy, and healthy relationships. They explore common misconceptions, offer guidance for parents and caregivers, and highlight strategies for teaching boundaries, consent, and self‑advocacy in developmentally appropriate ways.

Transition to Adulthood: What Families Need to Know

The transition to adulthood can feel overwhelming for families, especially when navigating services, supports, and systems that often lack clarity. This episode provides a grounded, compassionate roadmap for what lies ahead. Alma and Iris discuss planning for post‑secondary options, employment, independent living, community inclusion, and the emotional realities families face during this major life shift. Their insights help demystify the process and empower families to approach transition with confidence and intention.

Montclair Disability Pride Parade — Photos & Sponsors

The 2026 Montclair Disability Pride Parade was one of the most joyful and energizing moments of our spring season. Families, self‑advocates, community partners, and allies came together to celebrate disability identity, visibility, and belonging.

The sense of unity was fantastic: children waving signs, local organizations marching alongside the people they serve, and neighbors cheering from the sidewalks. It was a day that captured the heart of our mission at 1in6 Support.

We’ve gathered a collection of phenomenal photos that reflect the joy and spirit of the event that you can view on our Gallery Page.

This event would not have been possible without the generosity and partnership of our sponsors, and we encourage you to take a moment to learn more about the organizations that stood with us this year:

  • The Wellmont Arts Plaza
  • HMH Mountainside Medical Center
  • The Montclair Business Improvement District
  • Montclair State University Disability Caucus
  • The People With Disabilities Committee to the Town of Montclair
  • Sensory Wellness

Thank you to everyone who marched, volunteered, sponsored, photographed, and showed up with love in their hearts.

1in6 Support in the Media

This spring, 1in6 Support received national visibility when our co‑founder, Alma Schneider, was featured on PowerCast with Tyler Mathisen. Alma spoke candidly about the realities families of children with disabilities face every day from navigating complex systems to finding community support, advocating for inclusion, and building spaces where families feel seen and understood.

For those who haven’t seen it yet, we invite you to watch the conversation.

Guest Speaker Series

This spring, our Montclair Friday Group hosted an inspiring lineup of guest speakers! Each presentation offered families practical tools, emotional support, and new ways of thinking about disability, wellness, and community connection.

The series covered a wide range of topics that reflect the real needs of our families, from navigating complex medical journeys to building sensory‑friendly environments, planning for the future, fostering friendships, and exploring inclusive wellness practices. Our speakers included advocates, clinicians, financial specialists, community leaders, and creators who center disability in their work.

For those who weren’t able to join us live or who want to revisit the material, here are the links to the recordings below. We encourage you to explore them at your own pace and share them with anyone who may benefit.

Mother’s Day Events — We Even Made it on CBS News!

On May 8, our Montclair and Midland communities each celebrates the strength, resilience, and love of mothers raising children with disabilities.

Each event had its own local flavor, but both shared a common spirit: honoring the women who advocate tirelessly, love fiercely, and hold so much of their families’ worlds together.

We’re delighted to share highlights from both locations on our Gallery Page.

And be sure to watch news coverage of both events below!

Our heartfelt thanks go out to every donor, sponsor, and community member who contributed to our 1in6 Support’s Spring Campaign.
